We have all seen the tragic images of destruction caused by the earthquake and the tsunami in the Indian ocean region. News reports put the death toll at 150,000 and millions have been displaced/injured or lost their livelihoods. The need for relief and rehabilation funds to cater to such a hugh populace is also very high.
This is an effort by the students at the UofA to raise funds for the Tsunami affected peoples of the world.
- Funds raised by the IRSO will be allocated to four severly Tsunami affefted countries: Indoneasia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.
- Students from each country will be asked to identify local NGOs interested in working in their countries.
- After due consideration, if the proposed project in any country is not going to go ahead, then the money will be allocated to other countries.
We are inviting specific projects like construction of community hall, school from the tsunami affected countries. Interesed persons or organizations can submit their project proposal by email to IRSO .The executive commitee will discuss and decide about the project implementation.
We also seek support from Canadian NGOs to participate in these specific projects.
